Who buys used industrial air compressors?

Used industrial compressors are bought by specialist compressor buyers, compressor service companies, machinery dealers and other manufacturers. Selling to a specialist buyer is usually the quickest option, because they know the resale value of each model and can price, collect and pay without you having to advertise.

What is my used screw compressor worth?

Screw compressor values vary a lot. The main factors are:

  • Power rating (kW) and output: larger units are worth more, but only if there's demand for that size.
  • Running hours: check the hour meter. Lower hours for its age means more life left before a major service.
  • VSD or fixed speed: variable speed units are often in higher demand because they use less energy.
  • Airend condition: a recent airend overhaul adds value; a noisy or tired airend reduces it.
  • Service history: regular oil, filter and separator changes with records make a unit easier to resell.
  • Age and controller: newer controllers with clear fault logs give buyers confidence.

Piston compressors are usually worth less than screw units of the same age, but good-condition two-stage units from known brands still sell well.

What to send for an accurate valuation

  1. Photo of the data plate (make, model, serial number, year)
  2. Photo of the controller showing running hours and loaded hours
  3. Photos of the whole unit, front and side
  4. Service records, if you have them
  5. Whether it's still installed and running
  6. Site postcode and any access details (stairs, plant room, loading bay)

Removing a compressor from a plant room

Industrial compressors are heavy and are often installed in tight plant rooms. Before collection, the unit needs to be isolated from power and air supply, and condensate and oil handled properly. We can arrange a qualified engineer to disconnect it, then remove it with suitable lifting equipment.

If you're clearing the whole compressor house or the wider site, our sister company UK Clearances handles full factory and warehouse clearances.

Industrial compressor FAQs

How do I find the running hours on my compressor?

Most screw compressors show total hours and loaded hours on the controller display. Older units may have a separate mechanical hour meter. A photo of the screen is all we need.

Do you buy compressors with high hours?

Yes. High-hour compressors can still be worth buying, especially if they've been well serviced or the airend has been rebuilt.

Is it worth selling an old fixed-speed compressor?

Usually, yes. Older fixed-speed units still have resale, parts or scrap value, and selling one frees up space in your plant room.

Do you buy the air receiver and dryer as well?

Yes. We can buy the whole system or just the compressor. A receiver with its written scheme of examination and inspection records is easier to resell.

Can you buy several compressors at once?

Yes. We buy single units and complete compressor houses, including multiple machines and all the ancillary equipment.
